Canyon Travel operates trips differently than other operators with our private ecolodges.
Most other tour operators do not operate lodges and they offer very little in the operation of their travel services. Experience wilderness without a mass of tourists and be closer to nature and to the culture.
View Military Macaws and Thick-billed Parrots flying overhead and Coatimundi and other wildlife that does not go near other lodges. Visit with Raramuri (Tarahumara) like dropping in on neighbors in contacts that unfold naturally.
Independent travelers like our services the best because there are not hoards of tourists or buses at our lodges.
Yes the Copper Canyon area is safe. Virtually all of the violence is at the border. There have been zero incidents with tourists in the Copper Canyon area. We stay far away from affected areas and have every confidence that your trip will be safe…and very enjoyable!
*The company that is presently running what used to be “Canyon Travel” or “Columbus Travel” is no longer affiliated with Mr. Emilio Kifuri or any of his offices in Bulverde, Texas and is for all practical purposes, under new management with all the same key personel it has had since its inception in 1971. The new company will take a deposit on tours and the balance of the trip will be paid as you go and receive services. The new company will also finance all or part of the trip to qualified clients. The new company is based out of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and it is recommended that you start your tour in Cabo and then take a one hour plane ride to Los Mochis where you will begin your trip with our agents in a safe environment. You may of course still fly in to Chihuahua or directly to Los Mochis if that is your preference.
